The 'Coca-Cola Route' — hut accommodation, the classic approach, and the Kibo Crater.
Marangu is the original Kilimanjaro route: wooden hut dormitories instead of tents, a gentler gradient on approach, and the longest history. At six days it is the shortest option — not our first recommendation for acclimatisation, but the most accessible price point on the mountain.
The Itinerary
Enter through the Marangu Gate — the busiest gate on the mountain — and hike through dense rainforest. The 8 km trail climbs gently through beautiful podocarpus trees. Arrive at Mandara Hut: wooden A-frame buildings with bunk beds. Short afternoon walk to Maundi Crater for views.
